How long have you been in recruitment for?
"After 24 years working my way up at some of the biggest recruitment companies there was no other level than director or owner. I also had really bad burnout. I was working away from home constantly, 12 hour days. I ended up taking a year out with no intention of returning.
A random email to another EP director asking for contract work led to meeting Phil. After a very quick 4 hour conversation I realised what a golden nugget Phil was I decided to give it a go. In recruitment its very rare to meet someone so sincere and supportive, It just could never have been a no."
What made you decide to start your own recruitment business?
"Becoming as big as we are. I never once considered we would come anywhere near a 4 million turnover business. We are also operating in sectors I didn’t think possible. We are now in year 6 soon to be 7."
What has been your biggest highlight so far?
"Having an Equity Partnership is not for the faint of heart. It requires consistency and hard graft. I didn’t take a holiday for the first 2 years. What you put in is what you take out. If you are not afraid of hard work there isn’t a single negative I can think of."
What advice would you give to others who are thinking about starting up their own business?
"Fantastic. They really listen to what you need. In my case it was to be left alone to get on with building the business. They are as much on the phone as you need them. 24 years in this industry and this is the far happiest and content I have ever been. I am very grateful to them."
